Description

Llandinam Hall is a significant timber-framed farmhouse dating from the 17th century, featuring whitewashed infill panels and a slate roof. The building stands two storeys high, with close-studded framing on the ground floor and a diamond pattern above, although much of the upper register has been altered by the addition of windows. A two-storey porch, also close-studded, jetties on three sides at the first-floor level and includes an ovolo-moulded bressumer inscribed with "IR + ID 170II EE," along with tapered pendants at the corners. The porch has a fluted-moulded door, and an inscription similar to that found on the porch of Plâs Dinam is applied here.

The northeast end of the building dates from the 19th century and features painted false framing, as well as a gabled single-storey porch with balustered side lights and seats. The ground floor has nine-paned casement windows, while the upper floor has a nearly continuous range of paned timber windows. The southwest gable end, which contains the parlour stack, is made of painted brick, and the slate hanging from the early 19th-century rear wing extends to the external stack. The rear wing features sixteen-pane sash windows.

Inside, the hall has undergone alterations in the 19th century, including the replacement of the central stack with an angled stack on the rear wall. This stack heats a lobby that separates the early hall, located to the right of the porch, from the parlour at the southwest end. The hall features deeply chamfered beams with cut stops that divide the ceiling into six compartments, and a timber-framed partition leads to the former inner room at the northeast end, which has two door openings with depressed ogee heads and panelling dating from around 1680. The parlour boasts moulded ceiling beams. On the first floor, some wattle and daub infilling has been exposed. The staircase, located in the rear wing, has bracketed treads and a handrail that is wreathed at the bottom. The roof consists of five trusses with straight windbraces over the early part, one tier of purlins clasped between a cambered collar and principal rafters, with the truss over the parlour featuring diminished principals, an ornate head, and curved feet.
