Description
Upper Luggy Farmhouse is likely from the early 17th century, with some later modifications, including partial rebuilding of the lower storey in brick. The structure is timber framed, featuring a jettied upper storey and roughcast plaster panel infill. There is planking over the timber framing on the southwest gable end and over the brickwork of the lower storey, while the northeast gable has been rebuilt in brick. The roof is slate, with brick axial and gable end stacks, the latter of which has been rebuilt.
The framing is irregular and jettied, with a chamfered bressumer that has two scarf joints, and plain chamfered brackets at the angles and at intervals that define the principal structural bays. The lower framing appears to have been mainly renewed, but above the bressumer, the irregularly spaced principal vertical posts of the left-hand bay seem to be original, while the studs of thinner scantling to the right may indicate a slightly later phase. The farmhouse has a three-unit plan, with a baffle entry to the left of centre. The windows are likely late 19th century insertions and are metal framed casements, featuring transoms on the lower storey. There is also a later brick wing at the rear, which includes a single-storey extension alongside the main range.
