Description
Long Bridge is a 3-arched bridge featuring gently ramped sections made of coursed rubble masonry. It has segmental arches with a band course above. The upstream side has low rubble cutwaters. The older part of the bridge has a rubble soffit, while the modern section is finished in concrete. The parapets and pedestrian pavements were added during the widening of the bridge and include inscribed tablets on both sides. At each end, there are stepped-out terminating piers. On the south bank, the west side of the parapet continues slightly ramped before stepping up and sweeping around the corner to connect with the footpath at the end of Long Bridge Street. On the east side, the line of the Old Bridge curves outward, with a rubble wall extending beyond a pier and ramping down towards the pavement. On the north bank, the listing ends at the western side of the bridge, while on the eastern side, the line of the old bridge curves slightly outwards to terminate in a pier at the road along the bank.
