Description
Cae-melyn is a two-bay house with an attached in-line cowhouse, constructed from rubble stonework. The house is rendered and colourwashed, featuring slated roofs. It is a single-storey building with an attic, likely dating from the early to mid-17th century, and underwent alterations in the mid-18th century. The house has a central entrance and gable stacks, with a bead-boarded door set within a part-glazed gabled porch. It has six-light 19th-century timber casement windows, and a small gable above the entrance contains a 6-pane casement window for the attic. The bargeboards are located at the south end, where the stack has brick dressings indicating it was added later. The kitchen is now situated in a lean-to at the south end.
To the left of the house is the cowhouse, which has a slightly lower roof. It features a double door in the longhouse position and an end door leading to a calf house, with three triangular vents set into the front wall.
Inside, the main living room is located at the north end, with a stack adjacent to the cowhouse. There is a boxed axial beam, and the south end is divided longitudinally. The roof is supported by very deep timbers, likely crucks, which are visible above the tie in the partition to the right of the door, featuring open half-lap-dovetail joints.
