Description

Cabin Lock is a lock on the Eastern Branch of the Montgomeryshire Canal, built between 1794 and 1797 by engineers John and Thomas Dadford. Between 1819 and 1831, G.W. Buck served as the engineer for the canal and introduced a unique system of lock ground-sluice control in 1831, which remains in place at this lock. The canal underwent significant work by the Shropshire Union Canal and Railway Company in the 1880s and 1890s, suggesting that the lock, although part of the original construction, was likely rebuilt or repaired during that period.

The lock features a blue brick-lined chamber with stone copings and timber gates. It also includes cast-iron lock ground-sluice controls introduced by G.W. Buck. This lock is recognized as an important component of the engineering of the Montgomeryshire Canal.
