Description

29 Short Bridge Street is a three-storey building with scribed cement render fronts. It features one window for No 29, which was formerly two storeys, and two windows for Nos 30 and 31. No 31 has rusticated quoins. The roofs are slate, and the chimney stacks are brick, modern for Nos 29 and 31. The eaves are supported by brackets. The windows are mainly recessed sash types with various small pane sizes, while No 30 has modern windows. Voussoirs and keystones are present at the first and ground floors, with the first floor detail only on No 31. No 31 has Victorian splayed bays with dentil cornices and four-pane sash glazing. The entrance to No 29 features a round arch with a boarded door leading to a tunnel passage, while No 30 has a square-headed entrance with a Victorian bracketed doorcase and a four-panel door to No 31.

At the rear, there is a partly cobbled yard. No 29 includes a two-storey cross range with a rubble base, boarded and half-glazed doors, and casement windows. The rear gable end has a fireplace from a formerly adjoining range that extended to the rear of Picton Street. The rear of No 30 is constructed with a brick nogged timber frame and has various casement windows. A full-height cross range, added after 1887, projects from the rear and once formed part of a network of small courtyards, as shown on a 1963 map. The ground floor is rubble, with brick above and brick nogged half-timbering on the second floor or weaving loft, which features louvred openings. The rear of No 31 has a fully exposed square panelled timber frame, with the second floor displaying diagonal braces and thinner scantling, likely indicating a weaving loft.

Contemporary railings are present at the front, featuring two tiers of finials that return along the pathway to the tunnel passage door. The interior of No 30 has been modernized, while No 31 has been converted into flats, retaining panelled reveals to the bay windows.
