Description
The sundial in the Fountain Garden at Powis Castle was likely installed around 1911-12 by Violet, Lady Powis, although it may have been moved from another location within the gardens.
The sundial features a stone base with engaged shafts on each side of a square central pier, adorned with continuous ring moulding at both the base and capital, along with a central band. It supports a round plate that holds an engraved copper dial, which still has its blade intact. The dial is decorated with scrolled designs and is inscribed with the Herbert Arms and motto, along with the signature of Bennett from Crow Court, Soho, London.
This finely detailed sundial serves as a focal point in the Fountain Garden.
