Description

Trewern Farm (North) Farmhouse is a farmhouse that features a timber frame, which is now covered in white painted brickwork with some rubble stone. The northern side of the wing has stone cladding that extends up into the brickwork, likely from the early 19th century, and the brick gable ends have cogged strings.

The farmhouse has a slate roof made of old slates of irregular widths on the main southern elevation. It is two storeys high, with the main range consisting of two bays and a cross wing at the northern end, also two bays, which forms the original parlour end. There is an outshut on the western side of the main range that now serves as a utility room. A door on the eastern elevation of the wing has been converted into a window, and a second window has been blocked.

Inside, a boarded door in the main range leads to a living hall that features a lateral fireplace on the western side and ceiling beams that are chamfered and have ogee stops. The kitchen is located at the southern end. The cross wing has timber framed partitions, with some areas still showing surviving wattle and daub infilling, and a lateral fireplace in the eastern bay. The roof structure includes heavy principal rafters, collars, and double purlins, with an angle-set ridge at the apex and short straight windbraces supporting the main range roof.
