Description
The stables at Cabalva House are a single-storey structure built from rubble, featuring flaking limewash on the front and a hipped slate roof. The design is sophisticated and symmetrical, highlighted by a central gable that sits above paired stable doors with 6-pane overlights; this gable also includes a loft door. On either side of the central gable, there are round-arched openings with blind fanlights and doors that have small-pane sidelights, with the left opening leading to the tack-room. The blind fanlights and a blind window on the right are painted to mimic leaded lights, which is an unusual feature for a stable building. The stable windows have mostly been renewed and consist of three lights. The doors are boarded and feature cambered brick voussoirs. There is a carriage entrance at the left end, while the right end has been altered with the addition of a modern stable range. Inside, the stables are mostly open to a simple 19th-century roof, although one stable in the center has a boarded ceiling. There are ventilation openings in the rear wall, which adjoins the former brick-walled kitchen garden.
