Description

This is a two-storey gabled house with a smaller two-span range located at the rear, situated in Upper Alport. The front range is constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern on random rubble cellar walls, with a slate roof. The roof features projecting, boarded eaves. Gable stacks are present. The windows have wedge lintels in stone and projecting stone sills, with hornless sashes; the upper-storey windows are 9-pane, and the lower-storey windows are 12-pane. A central doorway is framed by a wooden architrave with consoles and a prominent moulded cornice, leading to a four-panel door with overlight. The west gable end features iron-framed windows under flat brick arches, with timber sills. These consist of a 3/9 top-hung casement in the upper storey, and a 12-pane fixed light below. A late 19th-century lean-to extends from the rear range to the rear wall of the house. The rear range has a brick stack on its east gable. The east side has a mid-20th-century window to the upper storey and an 18-pane iron-framed casement under a brick segmental head to the lower storey. The west wall mirrors this fenestration, with the addition of a late 20th-century door. A bricked-up doorway and a late 20th-century window are found on the north side. A single-storey extension at the rear was rebuilt in the late 20th century.

The stair hall includes quarry tiles and an open-well staircase constructed of oak with a wreathed handrail, above which is a small skylight. On the ground floor, the front left room has 4-panel pine doors with moulded architraves. The front right room features a late 19th-century decorative cast iron fireplace with encaustic tiles and a decorative stone surround. The first floor has ledged and battened doors. The rear range contains two rooms on the lower storey. A ledged and battened door opens to a straight staircase with a handrail at the top. A cellar contains a cistern supplied by a well on the north side of the house.
