Description

Upper Dyffryn is a two-storey house with a cellar, dating to the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble blocks, with a string course running along the exterior. The crosswing features exposed timber framing to the first floor, characterised by irregular panels, some close-studding, and V-braces in the apex. The roof is slate, with a half-hipped section to the west of the hall range. Projecting stone stacks have brick tops and are located on the crosswing wall and the east gable of the hall.

The main entrance is a six-panel door, covered by a slated canopy supported on plain timber posts. The hall windows are twelve-pane sash windows with brick cills, while the crosswing has nine-panel windows with a central metal casement. The rear windows are 19th-century wooden casements.

At the time of inspection in May 1990, the house was empty and in a state of disrepair. The house was not fully inspected but features a deep chamfered beam and main joists with draw stops in the crosswing, along with a wide scroll-stopped beam to the left of the entrance hall. The interior has undergone 19th-century remodelling, including the installation of stairs, fireplaces, king-post trusses, and six-panelled doors.
