Description
The Hanmer war memorial is a red sandstone structure designed in the style of a medieval churchyard cross. It features an octagonal shaft topped with a crucifix, standing on an octagonal base. The base includes a commemorative inscription in low relief as well as a roll call in inscribed letters. The tapering shaft has a cornice that incorporates a frieze of four-leaf flowers and is flanked by two slender attached shafts that rise to pinnacles beside the crucifix, supporting a gabled canopy. On the right and left sides of the base, there are additional memorial inscriptions from the 1939-45 period, presented on polished granite.
