Description
Hanmer churchyard cross is a medieval cross situated on a later stepped octagonal freestone plinth. The cross features a tapering octagonal shaft that is stopped and square at the base. The lantern of the cross is badly weathered. On the northern and southern faces, there are figures of St Chad to the north and a mitred bishop to the south, both depicted on head corbels. The broader eastern and western faces display the Crucifixion and the Virgin and Child, which are also badly weathered and/or mutilated.
