Description

The walls to the Privy Garden are a mix of stone and brickwork, dating from the 16th century and later. The southern and eastern walls are made of stone, with the eastern wall featuring a central gateway that leads to the eastern gardens. The western wall is constructed of 16th-century brickwork, with some alterations in ashlar stonework. At the center of the western wall, there is a mid-19th century entrance gateway and arch, which is flanked by buttresses and topped with a pent stone slab roof. This gateway leads to steps that descend into the service yard. The western wall stands approximately 3.5 meters high and has a crenellated design, with the northern section showcasing significant early brickwork.
