Description

Llwyn-y-cil Cottage is a timber-framed building dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed with square panel timber framing, three panels high, with painted infill panels and stone gable ends which are now rendered. The roof is slated over wide boarding. The cottage is one storey high with attics, and has three bays, following a lobby entry plan with an added service bay on the north side. A central, boarded door from the early 19th century is set within a timber-gabled porch raised on steps. Modern timber windows are largely set within earlier openings.

Much of the original timber framing remains, although it is largely covered. The south parlour room features chamfered cross beams with run-out stops. Axial back-to-back fireplaces are still present but have not been opened up, although one oven remains in the south fireplace. A 1930s staircase is located behind the chimney stack, likely in its original position. The former dairy contained a large gable end fireplace with a deep timber fire lintel and an oven with a half-brick arch. Some bracken insulation was found under the first-floor boarding.
