Description

22 Charles Street is a terrace of four late 19th century shops with accommodation above, adapted from an earlier building that likely dates back to the 17th century and was originally timber framed. The front is brick, but timber framing can still be seen in the internal cross walls and probably in the roof structure. The building features square panelled framing with arch bracing at the corners. There are chamfered brick arched doorways and shop windows, along with a similarly arched central passage entry. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with slate, featuring tiled cresting and finials on hipped dormer gables, each of which has a two-light casement window.
