Description
21 Charles Street is a terrace of four shops from the late 19th century, with accommodation above, adapted from an earlier building that likely dates back to the 17th century and was originally timber framed. The front is made of brick, while the internal cross walls and possibly the roof structure still feature timber framing. The building has square panelled framing with arch bracing at the corners. Notable architectural details include chamfered brick arched doorways and shop windows, as well as a similar arched entry for the central passage. The steeply pitched slate roof is adorned with tiled cresting and finials on the hipped dormer gables, each of which contains a two-light casement window.
