Description

Cefn Kynaston is a house dating from the 18th century, retaining its original layout. It is constructed from coursed and squared rubble with tooled freestone dressings, with a hipped slate roof and prominent eaves overhangs. Brick axial stacks are paired. A rear wing is similarly constructed, but uses yellow brick dressings to the windows.

The main house is two storeys high, with a three-window front, and a central entrance. A segmental trellis-work porch contains a segmentally arched doorway. The ground floor windows are 12-pane sashes with tooled heads, and the first floor windows are similar. A lean-to stone addition extends from the east elevation, featuring a large conservatory window overlooking the garden.

The interior comprises a central entrance hall flanked by principal rooms facing the garden. Several rooms have original, simply moulded plaster cornices, and some original fireplaces; other fireplaces are later, 19th-century introductions. The enclosed staircase has simple stick balusters to the landing, and panelled internal shutters are fitted to the windows.

Rubble garden walls with plain stone copings enclose the garden and form the east and south boundaries of the plot.
