Description
Kinnerton Lodge is a Regency villa, dating from the early 19th century, with later additions to the rear creating a domestic courtyard. The exterior is rendered brick over a stone base, with a grey slate roof featuring wide projecting eaves and thin dentilations. The main facade has three bays, with a semi-circular projecting central bay at ground floor, containing shallow stone steps leading to semi-circular glazed doors within a larger glazed opening. Above this is a large central window with a stone sill to the first floor. The bays to the left and right have twelve-pane sash windows, with replacements to the ground floor on the right. A side elevation to the left return features two bays, with twelve-pane sash windows to the first floor and a large twenty-five-pane sash window with margin panes to the ground floor, mirroring the main facade. A doorcase, featuring shallow fluted pilasters and consoles topped with a rectangular fanlight, sits to the left, leading to a late Victorian four-panel, half-glazed door, sheltered by a glazed canopy supported by three pairs of cast iron columns with classical designs. The columns are connected at their bases by quatrefoil panels and at their capitals by decorative open ironwork. The side elevation to the right return also has two storeys, with two twelve-pane sash windows on each floor, along with a late 19th-century two-storey addition, also with twelve-pane sash windows. Barge boards with trefoiled openings at the top and bottom add detail. A later single-storey extension with Ruabon dressings extends further to the rear. The rear elevation, three storeys high, is contained within a small domestic courtyard, enclosed in the late 19th century. This rear elevation features sash windows with sixteen panes to the ground floor, twelve panes to the first floor, and eight panes to the second floor. A centrally placed doorcase has shallow fluted pilasters with consoles above and a rectangular fanlight.
Inside, the original layout remains largely intact, including a cantilevered stone staircase, and to the rear, a smaller staircase to the servants' quarters with decorative cast iron rails. The Dining Room features a black marble fire surround with an arched opening, a keystone, and a shelf. The Drawing Room has a similar design in white marble. The first-floor sitting room has a white marble fire surround with a straight-headed opening and a carved classical floral motif.
