Description

Holly House is a 2-storey house in the Tudor Gothic style, constructed from coursed rubble with freestone dressings and a slate roof featuring coped gables and moulded kneelers. The house has an asymmetrical 4-bay front, distinguished by three varied gables on the right and a half-hipped bay on the left. The entrance is located slightly left of centre and features a pointed head with a hoodmould and a panelled and ribbed door. Above the entrance is a 2-light window beneath a gablet, which has a dated tablet at its apex. To the left of the entrance, there is a canted bay window with a relieving arch on the lower storey. Set back to the right of the entrance are two asymmetrical gables, each with 3-light transomed windows in the lower storey and similar windows above, all under relieving arches.

The left-hand return of the house has double gables and features a cross window in the lower storey to the right, with a 3-light window above it. The left gable is set back and has two cross windows in the lower storey and a 3-light window above. The rear elevation includes a porch with a doorway on its right side, which is sheltered by a boarded canopy. Above the porch is a cross window in the upper storey, and to the left is a paired sash window under a gablet in the upper storey, along with an enlarged window in the lower storey. Further to the left, the service wing extends to form an L-plan facing the yard, featuring a blocked doorway and two windows, with two paired sashes in the upper storey.

On the right-hand return of the house, an external stack is positioned slightly left of centre, serving as a focal point. To the left of the stack are two replaced windows in the lower storey and a sash window above. On the right side of the stack, there are replaced windows flanking an inserted window in the lower storey, with two sash windows above. A projection is located at the rear. Access to the interior was not available at the time of inspection.
