Description
Surgery House is a large early 19th century four-bay house with three floors, topped by a shallow-pitched roof featuring a plain cornice. It has a projecting end chimney on the west side, a painted stucco ground floor, and pebble-dashed upper floors and chimney. A plain string course runs along the building. The three western bays are nearly symmetrical, with a central doorway that has a plain stop-chamfered doorcase. The door, dating from the late 19th century, is a six-panelled design with the upper four panels glazed.
The first and second floors have square, recessed sash windows with four panes, with the second-floor windows positioned under the eaves. To the left of the entrance on the ground floor, there is a large late 19th-century window featuring a tripartite upper section and a two-pane lower section, complete with a moulded label. To the right, there is a six-light tripartite window with a cambered head. The eastern bay has a plain ground floor projection with a pediment and an arched recess that contains an arched-headed window, which features an early 20th-century stained glass fan. Above this, there is a large blind arched recess. The building is finished with painted stucco quoins and a plinth.
