Description
Glanaber is a two-storey house built in a Georgian style, likely dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with dressed stone quoins and deep window lintels, all currently painted. The house is arranged with a central one-window range facing east, and flanked by gabled wings to the north and south. The gables of these wings are treated as pediments, featuring stone mouldings. The roof is slate, with stone chimneys incorporating cornices to the central range and each cross wing.
The central range has dentillated eaves, and a sill band runs along the upper storey where a single 16-pane sash window is located. The doorway is offset to the right and features a painted channelled stone doorcase with a bracketed cornice, leading to a six-panelled door. A sash window is situated to the left of the doorway. The southern cross wing is slightly narrower and has 16-pane sash windows on each storey. The northern cross wing has a 16-pane sash window in the upper storey, below which a central doorway, now with a replaced door, is flanked by small-pane windows. The right-hand side wall of this wing, facing north, has a single upper-storey 16-pane sash window, along with some blocked windows. The lower storey of this wing features a large 20-pane window – formerly a shop – and two windows with replaced sash windows flanking a blocked doorway. A single-storey extension to the rear incorporates a horizontal-sliding sash window and doorway, above which a terracotta plaque depicts a dragon in a rampant pose.
The main entrance leads into a large central hall, which contains ceiling beams and a large fireplace with a stone lintel opposite the entrance. The dining room has a chamfered beam. The lounge features a corner fireplace that has been repositioned. A late Georgian painted fireplace, with decorative disc details on the capitals, is found in the right-hand bedroom.
