Description

1 and 2 Tai Cochion are a pair of two-storey cottages built in a vernacular-revival style typical of Douglas and influenced by Norman Shaw's Old English style. Constructed of brick, they feature hipped tile roofs with a central shared chimney stack. The windows are asymmetrically arranged and have moulded brick dressings, mullions, and sill bands, with a string course between the storeys. A central buttress on the lower storey separates the two cottages. Each cottage has a five-light mullioned window on the lower storey, offset towards the inner side, and a single-light window on the outer side. On the upper storey, there are two-light windows on the inner side and three-light windows on the outer side, each pair beneath a rendered gable decorated with a lozenge pattern in brick. The entrances to each cottage are located in the side wall, with doorways that are offset to the front, featuring cambered heads and boarded doors with strap hinges. Above the doors, there are small windows beneath the eaves. Towards the rear, each cottage has a single-light window in the lower storey, a two-light mullioned window in the upper storey, and an inserted window in the lower storey set back from the rear angle. The rear of each cottage has 20th-century additions.
