GV II

Asymmetric pair of It storey estate cottages 1882 by John Douglas. Stone dressed brown brick lower storey: upper storey partly pebbledashed, partly tile hung. Red roofs of shaped tiles with gables and hips. 2 shaped brick chimneys. 2 end and 2 front gables carry ornate raised pargetting depicting suns, allegorical figures, creatures, birds and floral patterns (with some implied eroticism). Upper storey jettied to front (E). Open recessed porch with timber balustrade to left cottage. Mullioned windows, stone to lower, oak to upper storey, with leaded glazing in iron frames. 7 panel door to right, 4 panel to left cottage. Interior: Panelled doors with well-executed mouldings to rails, stiles and muntins and individually designed architraves. A richly detailed pair of cottages, almost Edwardian in expression (see Pevsner and Hubbard).
