Description
Smithy Farm is an originally built farmhouse that was largely rebuilt in 1896 by Douglas and Fordham for the 1st Duke of Westminster. The building features stone dressed red brick with blue diaper patterns that encase parts of earlier sandstone walls. It has a slate roof with two symmetrically placed shaped chimneys with three flues on the rear slope. The structure is two storeys high and has three bays.
A projecting oak-framed gabled porch sits on a shaped sandstone plinth, featuring an arched entrance under a carved beam with the date inscribed. The sides of the porch have leaded glazing. The upper storey has brickwork on the front, above a stone string at the first floor, arranged in panels with arched brick corbelling at the eaves. The windows have stone surrounds and mullions, with each ground floor light featuring an ogee head and iron casements with leaded glazing. The end gables are rendered and have stone-dressed lancets. The front door is a four-panel design with arched upper panels. The interior has not been inspected.
