Description
Pentre Meredydd is a long single-storey sub-medieval hall-house that is currently unoccupied. It is constructed of whitened, partly-rendered rubble and features a steeply-pitched thatched roof, which is covered with corrugated iron sheeting. There is a patched central section that may relate to a former central chimney, which has been removed.
On the southeast side, which serves as the entrance, there is a blocked entrance with a wooden frame to the left, alongside a low 19th-century rubble garden wall built against it. To the right is the main entrance, which has a boarded door set within a pegged, chamfered doorcase. Adjacent to this are two large 19th-century windows with 16 panes each; the first is fixed, while the second is a sliding sash. There is also a further 6-pane sash window at the far right, which is at the downhill end.
The northwest side, or rear, has two small square primary windows at the downhill end, featuring 2-light sashes. In the center, there is a low masonry projection with a deeply-recessed window opening to the right, and beyond this is a large blocked window that may have originally been a 3-light mullioned window, with an exposed oak jamb to the right. At the far right, which is the uphill end, there is another square, unglazed window. The uphill gable has a blocked entrance and an open upper gable, while the downhill gable features a corrugated iron gable apex.
The interior was not available for inspection at the time of the survey in October 1997.
