Description
Plas Bennett is a two-storey, double-pile house dating from the 18th century. It stands as a five-window property constructed of Flemish bond brickwork, with stone dressings and slate roofs. The front roofline is hidden behind a reconstructed, coped parapet which is slightly recessed in panels that align with the window positions below. A stone plinth is present at the front, with a stone cavetto moulding above a torus. Rusticated quoins mark the corners of the building. Brick chimneys rise from each side of the house. The sides and rear of the house are rendered, with a lower rear eaves line and a gabled projecting turret at the rear.
The front elevation presents a symmetrical facade featuring 12-pane hornless sash windows in exposed frames, both above and below. The window heads are flat arches formed with brick headers and fluted keystones. Moulded stone sills are present. A set of three steps leads to the front door, which is framed by an eared architrave, a pulvinated frieze, and a broken wavy pediment. The door itself is of six panels and lacks an overlight.
Paired windows are found in each end wall, and a dormer window is located at the rear.
The interior has not been inspected, but it is reported to contain high-quality features, including a dogleg staircase with a cut bracketed string, fluted balusters, a swept handrail with a coil over the curtail step. Original doors and wainscotting are also said to be present.
