Description
Plas-newydd Farmhouse is a two-storey farmhouse with attached outbuildings arranged around three and a half sides of a small courtyard. The front range faces west towards a garden and lawn, while a large service range runs parallel to the east. Part of the service range and a return to the north includes a loft granary. On the south side, there is a link range that contains the domestic kitchen and an entrance archway.
The front range features three windows and is rendered with a slate roof adorned with red ridge and verge tiles. It has hornless 12-pane sash windows both above and below, along with a central door that is sheltered by a small gabled porch. The eaves and verges have a generous overhang. The rear of the building showcases axe-dressed stonework and has two large gables topped with brick chimneys; one chimney has four diagonally-placed brick shafts, while the other has three.
The rear and link ranges are constructed of axe-dressed masonry and have a slate roof that is about a metre lower than that of the front range. The south elevation of the link range and the gable of the rear range feature two or three light casement windows above and below, as well as an elliptical ashlar entrance arch with a keystone. The east elevation of the service range includes one upper and one lower window, along with a lattice screen.
Inside the courtyard, there is a lean-to against the rear of the house that contains a rear door, which is diagonally boarded, with casement windows above and below in the link (kitchen) range. The service range includes a brewhouse next to the archway and a space that was formerly used as accommodation for farm servants. Above this area is the granary, which is accessed by stairs located against the gable of the return and additional stairs next to the brewhouse.
The house consists of two units with stairs at the rear, and the kitchen is located at the back of the right unit. Other premises are accessed across the enclosed yard, with outside stairs leading to the granary.
