Description

The Bungalow, formerly an isolation ward at the North Wales Hospital, is a Grade II listed building that includes an associated mortuary block. This structure consists of male and female isolation wards designed as mirrored units around a central two-storey block, linked by glazed corridors. It is built from snecked brown-grey stone and features slate roofs.

The central block is recessed and has two gables, each adorned with mullioned and transomed windows on both floors. The central bay contains a small first-floor window and a doorway with a small-pane over-light and marginal glazing. The outer gabled bays have cross-windows, with small-pane glazing on the ground floor. There is a projecting end chimney and a tall small-pane window at the rear. The rear elevation displays paired windows in each gable, with a smaller window positioned between them.

The left wing of the building features a cupola on its roof, along with a projecting gabled bay that includes a mullioned and transomed window and a vent slot in the gable apex. There is another mullioned and transomed window to the left, with a smaller square window beyond it. To the right of the gabled bay, there is a mullioned and transomed window, a splayed corner with a similar window, and an additional mullioned and transomed window at the gabled end. The rear of this wing has transomed windows and a projecting gabled bay at the inner end, along with a small single-storey gabled office. This wing connects to the central block via a corridor that has a stone wall rising to about 1 meter, with small-pane glazing above. The front of the corridor has a monopitch slate roof and a door leading to the inner return. The right wing mirrors the left wing's design.

At the rear, a parallel single-storey mortuary range is connected by a wall and service buildings. It is constructed in the same style, featuring louvered roof vents, small-pane windows, and a boarded door.
