Description

Tal-y-Fan Ward at the North Wales Hospital is a two-storey Neo-Georgian villa built of rendered brick with a hipped, greenish slate roof and rendered end chimneys. The north entrance front is symmetrical and consists of seven bays, featuring a string course between the floors. The central entrance is highlighted by a single-storey flat-roofed porch that references the Regency original at Gwynfryn, supported by Tuscan columns and topped with a cornice. On either side of the entrance are 15-pane horned sash windows, with additional similar windows at the end bays. There are two smaller windows to the left of the entrance and three to the right, although the right side originally had two as well. The first floor has three 12-pane sash windows in the center, flanked by two 9-pane sashes on each side. The roof slopes down in a double hip towards the end bays, emphasizing the five-bay central section.

To the right of the building is a small enclosed yard with curved screen walls at the front and sides, featuring a round-arched entrance with corner piers and ball finials. Originally, similar walls were on the left side, but these have been replaced by a modern single-storey flat-roofed extension. The rear elevation includes three tripartite windows on the first floor and three flat-roofed, canted bays on the ground floor, with small-pane glazing throughout.
