Description
3 Abbey Square is an early 19th century building that underwent later 19th century remodelling, particularly to No 1. The structure is built of rubble with a slate roof and features brick chimney stacks, some of which have been renewed. Nos 2 to 4 have two-storey fronts with one window each, showcasing Gothick small pane casement windows, some of which have also been renewed. The ground floor has cambered lintels and modern half-glazed porches. No 1, located to the left, is a single storey with an attic and is stepped down from Nos 2 to 4. It has a two-window front with attic gables and casement windows with brick sills below the eaves, along with a four-pane sash window on the ground floor. There is a lean-to porch/conservatory with a half-glazed door and a modern extension at the rear.
At the left end, the building continues with a gable that faces Abbey Road, featuring a four-pane sash window above a modern shop front for Riverside newsagents. The shops on either side are not included in this description. Inside Nos 2 to 4, there are light chamfered beams.
