Description
1 Abbey Square is a 19th-century building constructed of rubble with a slate roof and brick chimney stacks, some of which have been renewed. The adjacent buildings, Nos 2-4, feature two-storey, one-window fronts with Gothick small pane casement windows, some of which have also been renewed. They have cambered lintels on the ground floor and modern half-glazed porches. No 1, located to the left, is a single-storey building with an attic, stepped down from Nos 2-4. It has a two-window front with attic gables and casement windows that have brick cills below the eaves. A four-pane sash window is present on the ground floor, along with a lean-to porch/conservatory and a half-glazed door. There is a modern extension at the rear.
At the left end, the building continues to a gable end that faces Abbey Road. Above the modern shop front of the Riverside newsagents, there is a four-pane sash window in the gable. The shops on either side are not included in this listing. Inside Nos 2-4, there are light chamfered beams.
