Description
The Arcaded Lock-ups, built under the ramped revetment of Crown Lane, consist of seven storage lock-ups made of limestone rubble. Each lock-up features brick arches with limestone keystones and boarded double doors. Most of the arches are segmental, except for the one on the far right, which is round arched. The arches increase slightly in size from left to right, following the incline of the ramp. Above the ramp, there is a stone-coped parapet wall that slopes from left to right and steps up slightly at the far right. Here, a further segmental arch with limestone voussoirs connects the arcade to the former Butter Market, forming a bridge. This area includes a flight of stone steps that provides access from Chapel Place to Crown Lane above.
