Description
The T-shaped agricultural range at Bachymbyd Fawr is a notable structure featuring a primary section that includes a fragment of a 2-bay cruck barn, which has been rebuilt or extended with a box-framed, 2-bay lower end. To the southwest, there is a 3-bay carthouse addition from the 19th century, and to the northeast, a 20th-century garage/store completes the range, all covered with slate roofs.
The primary section showcases timber-framed end and northeast walls, with early brick infill and external vertical weatherboarding. The southwest side is open, while the northeast side has a high rendered plinth. The carthouse is constructed from limestone rubble and features an economically-slated roof, with an open southeast side supported by plain wooden posts as bay divisions. The 20th-century range has horizontally-boarded sides and a lower gable end made of red brick, with a modern boarded garage door and steel-framed windows facing southeast. Additionally, there is a 20th-century outshut made of brick and rubble extruded at the angle between this and the primary range, with a garage entrance to the southeast.
Inside, the primary barn section consists of a 2-bay design with base crucks and original purlins. It also features braced tie-beam and raking strut trusses from a 17th-century addition, with a concrete floor. The carthouse range is supported by 3-bay king post trusses from the 20th century.
