Description
41 Russell Road is a render-faced house, originally with rusticated detailing to the ground floor (though this has been lost in numbers 39-41), dating to the early 19th century. The house has slate roofs with ridge cresting and end wall stacks, some of which have been reduced in height. It is two storeys tall with attics, and has a symmetrical four-window front, with projecting gables at each end and short side wings which provide entrances to the outer properties. The projecting gables each feature two-storey canted bay windows, with Palladian windows on the ground floor; a continuous band runs across the facade as an impost. Windows in the gable apexes have deeply moulded upper sections above the impost band. The central range of the building has a projecting lower storey, incorporating porches leading to recessed entrances on either side, and rectangular bay windows. These bay windows have paired round-headed windows with heavily moulded surrounds and cast-iron decorative detail above the cornice. The paired first-floor windows have stilted arched moulded heads, with low impost bands that continue across the facade. All windows are four-pane sashes. A modillion cornice runs across the central section, and the gables have scalloped bargeboards. There are gabled dormers in the roof of the central section, with paired sash windows and bargeboards.
