Description
Springfields is a three-storey building constructed from yellow brick with blue brick and painted stone dressings, topped with a slate roof featuring tiled cresting and side wall and axial stacks. The building has a symmetrical double-pile layout, with principal rooms at the front and service rooms at the rear, separated by an axial stair hall.
There are two window ranges between the advanced outer gables, with entrances set back to the side of these gables, located at the angle of a short gabled side wing. The flat-roofed porches are supported by massive scrolled brackets that carry an entablature and blocking course, topped with iron brattishing. A stilted arched window on the side features a blue brick impost band that forms a continuous band across the main facades.
The outer gables are adorned with two-storey canted bay windows that have 2-pane sashes and a moulded cornice. The attic windows are stepped and stilted arched, also featuring blue brick impost bands. A continuous sill band on the first floor links the gable windows with those in the central section, which are set in stepped round-headed arches; the impost bands of these windows create a continuous moulded band across the facade.
The ground floor of the central range has rectangular bay windows, divided into tripartite sashes by pilasters and topped with iron brattishing. Additional decorative features include stone quoins on the gables, a dentilled eaves cornice, and ornate pierced bargeboards that create a free-standing braced collar and king post truss for each main gable.
