Description
16 Water Street is a Grade II listed building featuring a rendered exterior and a slate roof with coped gables, end wall stacks, and an axial stack. The building has a three-window range facing Water Street and a three-window lower wing on Bedford Street. The shop front projects from the ground floor, with a fascia supported by fluted cast iron columns on either side of central paired doorways. Above the entrance, there are canted oriel sash windows. The shop windows create rectangular bays on either side of the doorways, with the left-hand window retaining early 20th-century leaded upper lights. The right-hand unit has smaller windows and a corner entrance. Above the entrance, there are 12-pane sash windows flanking a central oriel window, all set in shaped plaster architraves. The fascia is enhanced by heavy fluted console brackets and extends across the gable and rear wing on the Bedford Street elevation, which features another shop front in a similar style, with 12-pane sash windows above and a blind central window.
