Description
Capel Bethel is a chapel built from rock-faced squared grey limestone, featuring a slate roof and cornice-profiled cast-iron gutters. The lateral facade includes four large arched windows, with an arched door positioned between the first and second windows, and an arched plaque above the door. The limestone ashlar has chamfered flush surrounds, stone voussoirs, and steeply sloped stone sills. The windows have small-paned glazing with radiating bar heads to the sashes. The 20th-century door features Y-tracery and a large fanlight above it. The end gables have overhanging verges and timber pendant finials, and there is a chamfered plinth. Attached to the right end is Ty Capel, which is separately listed. The left end wall has two arched windows and a reset date plaque from 1786 that includes Biblical texts. The rear of the chapel features three arched windows with stone voussoirs.
Inside, there are no galleries. The ceiling is coffered plaster with two roses and two ovals in the central band. The chapel has raked pews and a curved back to the great seat, which is complemented by an ornate cast-iron rail. The pulpit front has plain gothic panels, and behind it is a large plaster arch with ornate consoles and Y-tracery in the arch panel.
