Description

This is an asymmetrical, two-story, three-bay building dating from the 18th century. The building has a complex roofline; the left and central bays have gable fronts with half-hipped roofs, while the right bay is slightly forward with a flat roof. The ground floor features two shop fronts that appear almost continuous. The right-hand shop front is modern and incorporates moulded pilasters with fielded panels and roundels, topped by raised gable-fronted capitals also bearing roundels. These pilasters support a slightly angled cornice. The central entrance is flanked by pilasters and includes a half-glazed panelled door with a tall overlight, alongside large cross-windows set on a rendered plinth. An original entrance, centrally positioned on the front elevation, likely led to the first floor, and is similarly detailed with pilasters, a panelled door, and a tall overlight, with the cornice continuing from the shop front. The remains of the cornice from an earlier shop front are visible on the left, with the gable-fronted capital at the left end supported by a scrolled bracket. Below this cornice, the shop front has been filled with a rendered wall, featuring two panelled doors on either side of a pair of narrow horned sashes with plain glazing.

The upper story has a large 12-pane horned sash window in the right bay, and a smaller 12-pane sash on its right-hand return. The central bay has a pair of narrow 8-pane horned sashes with a continuous stone sill, while the left-hand bay has a pair of narrow horned sashes with plain glazing. On the south gable end, the building adjoins Gorphwysfa. The rear of the building was not visible. The shop to the right has a modernised interior with a false ceiling and a rear extension. The left-hand section and the first floor are used as flats and were not inspected.
