Description
Bont-uchel is a large single-span road bridge built from squared, rough-dressed limestone blocks, measuring approximately 20 meters in length. It features a tall, wide segmental arch made of rough-dressed voussoirs that are recessed below a projecting arch ring, with a large keystone positioned on the up-river side. The bridge has a flat carriageway and quarry-dressed parapets with copings, which are slightly splayed at the approaches, particularly noticeable at the southern end. The copings are secured with iron ties.
On the southern side and the down-river side of the northern end, the parapets terminate in square piers. The opposite side, to the south, has been altered due to the construction of a building nearby. A benchmark is located on the inner face of the southern up-river pier. There is an associated section of parapetted rubble revetment wall that steps down from this pier, curving in an arc for approximately 8 meters in two stages. On the southern down-river side, a similar wall follows the road's line eastwards in an arc for about 50 meters, terminating roughly 3 meters short of a second, smaller road bridge, which is located east of Bont-uchel Chapel and features slab copings.
