Description
The Chatsworth House Hotel comprises a range of buildings at 1-6 Gloddaeth Crescent, Llandudno. The buildings at numbers 1 and 2 date from the 18th century and have stuccoed elevations with a cornice incorporating dentils and modillions. The north-east elevation, facing the sea, features three gabled dormers and quoins. There are eight small segmental-headed third-floor windows, each with flanking columns and a stringcourse at sill level. Window heads on the second and first floors are ornamented with toothing. The second floor has a central two-light window with sash glazing, flanked by three-light windows, with the right-hand window having been altered. The first floor features a storeyed bow window in each end bay, descending to basement level. A central first-floor sash window is a derivative of a Venetian style, with a round-headed centre light flanked by narrow side lights and a shallow segmental pediment over the centre light. A ramp leads up to a doorway with a portico on the ground floor. A short stuccoed wall adjoins the property. The north-west elevation of numbers 1 and 2 is in a similar style, with six dormers and thirteen third-floor windows. The first and second floors have six windows, and the second and fifth bays feature first-floor round-headed windows with segmental pediments over rectangular ground-floor bays, which have iron cresting. A dwarf forecourt wall has a balustraded parapet.
The hotel also includes numbers 3-6, which face the sea and are three storeys and an attic in height with stuccoed elevations. Number 3 has three windows and three modern gabled dormers with casement glazing, along with a moulded eaves cornice. The second-floor sash windows have shouldered architraves. The first floor has a plain bow window in each end bay, descending to basement level. The central first-floor sash window has architraves with scrolls at the base and a cornice on consoles. Steps lead up to a round-headed doorway with a keystone, spandrils, a cornice, and a modern door. A dwarf balustraded forecourt wall is present. Number 4 is similar to number 3, with the doorway enclosed by a circa 1913 Art Nouveau veranda with a wide, convex design, incorporating iron detailing. Steps flanked by iron railings lead up to the doorway. Numbers 5 and 6 have narrower fronts of two windows each, with a two-storey bay window on the left. Number 5 has a modern attic window strip, while number 6 has two segmental-headed dormers. Both have modern doors.
