Description

The clock tower at Pabo Hall is a Tudor Gothic style structure built in 1886. It has a square plan and consists of three stages, constructed from snecked dressed stone with lighter freestone dressings. The roof is a swept pointed dome, featuring a moulded stone cornice and plaster coving, along with small raked louvered roof vents and a tall apex weathervane on a finial.

On the south side, there is a pointed arch with a continuous chamfer and a hood mould, leading to a boarded and studded door fitted with strap hinges. Small leaded ogival windows are located to the right and left of the door. The quoins in the second and third stages are slightly recessed. The second stage features a four-light stone ovolo-moulded mullion window, and above it, a drip stone extends over a central tablet that bears the date 1886; the center of the tablet, which was likely intended for a monogram, remains blank.

The third stage showcases a round clock face set within a square freestone panel, adorned with relief heads and foliage at the corners. Flanking the clock face are leaded windows with freestone surrounds. Below the sill of the clock face is an inscription in raised letters that reads 'Non Numero Horas Nisi Serenas'.

On the left side wall, there is a leaded window in the lower stage, while the second stage features a medallion depicting a high-relief classical female figure and an eagle, reflecting the style of the Aesthetic movement. The right side of the tower is pebble-dashed and includes a shallow lean-to in the lower stage with double garage doors, which were open during the previous survey in 1975. The ground level is higher at the rear, where there are boarded doors leading to the second and third stages, offset to the left. The upper doorway has a corbelled small threshold.
