Description
Wern Wen Farmhouse is a two-storey house with origins dating from the 17th century to the mid-18th century. The northeast wing features pebbledash cladding and has a slate roof, possibly raised in the 19th century when the southwest wing was added. The southeast elevation has two window bays, with two segmentally headed sash windows on the first floor that lack glazing bars and have horns. On the ground floor, there is one sash window to the right and a doorway to the left, which has a slate canopy over a six-panelled door, with the top two panels being glazed. Inside, the front ground room likely has a double ceiling and features a massive chamfered centre beam, although the cross-joists are now concealed by a plaster ceiling. There is a fireplace in the northeast gable end.
The later 19th-century wing to the southeast is also two-storey and pebble-dashed, with white-brick quoins and a slate roof behind coped brick gables. The front has three windows and a central round-headed panel door with an overlight. The segmental-headed windows are replacements. The right gable end has similar replacement windows, while a lower rear wing has a slight batter to the base and features a white-brick end stack. The south wall facing the farmyard has two windows and a panel door to the left, leading into a lean-to half-glazed porch. The windows in this wall are also replacements set in smaller earlier segmental-headed openings. The gable end has a small casement window in the upper right. On the north side, there is an outshut porch against the wing, with a panel door that includes an upper glazed panel. The property has not been inspected recently.
