Description
The Summerhouse at Voelas is a single-storey pavilion that features a rendered exterior and a flat roof. The front facade includes three narrow arched openings, which are separated by pierced and glazed pilasters, with a round opening above each arch. The elevation continues with one similar opening on each side. The windows have paned painted metal glazing and there are pairs of doors.
Inside, the walls are lined with square panelling from the 17th century. On the back wall, there is a remarkable late 16th or 17th century oak over-mantle that displays painted and gilded arms within arches, topped by a cornice. Flanking this are two early 17th century over-mantles: the eastern one features three arcaded bays with a central painted lion rampant, along with a cornice and gallery, while the western one is narrower and has two arched bays with a cornice above. Each panel contains painted crested arms. These interior features are believed to have originally come from the Wynne family home at Hen Voelas.
