Description
Pont-y-capel is a bridge constructed from local rubble stone. It features a single segmental arch that spans approximately 8.8 meters, with the soffit rising to about 2.75 meters above the water level. The arch is made of 47-centimeter deep rubble voussoirs that are slightly set in beneath a projecting regulating course. Above this, flush spandrels extend up into low flush stone-coped parapets. The bridge has a width of 5.5 meters between its parallel sides, providing a slightly humped carriageway that is 4.6 meters wide between the parapets. The ends of the bridge splay sharply outwards, terminating in square piers. The foundations are noted to be 5 feet (1.525 meters) deep, constructed of country stone laid in hot lime mortar.
