Description
Crochendy Twrog is a group of agricultural buildings dating from the 19th century. The buildings are constructed of grey-brown stone and feature slate roofs. The south elevation includes a central two-storey gabled block with an archway leading to the yard, flanked by a buttress on the right. Above the archway is a three-light mullion window, and there is a weathercock and belcote at the rear. To the right, there is a single-storey block with a hipped roof and modern small-pane windows. To the left of the entrance is a two-storey block that was formerly stables, with accommodation above. This block has a rectangular chimney and a louvred ventilator at the ridge, with upper floor windows set at the eaves, including two two-light mullioned windows and a single square window with casement glazing. The ground floor features a doorway with a boarded stable door and small-pane windows on either side. The left return has a small window in the gable apex and a small-pane casement at first floor level. There is also a block at right angles to the rear with small windows at the eaves.
An attached polygonal block, which may have been a former dairy, has a steep polygonal slate roof supported on monolithic columns, enclosing a polygonal room with yellow brick walling. The yard is completed on the east side by the rear wall of cattle sheds, with Yr Hen Ysgubor to the north, which is now in separate ownership.
Inside the former stables, now used as a pottery, some stalls remain, featuring dividers with turned balusters and similar mangers. There is a tack room with boarded panelling and steps leading to the upper level. The cattle sheds at the rear and right of the yard have broad roofs with king post trusses, some supported on monolithic pillars. These sheds contain stalls and enclosures with slate dividers framed in wood, heavy gates, and glazed ceramic drinking troughs.
