Description
Gerddi Bluog is a large building that incorporates the structure of a late 17th century farmhouse, which was extended at the rear by a two-window 19th century wing, creating a T-shaped layout. In the mid-20th century, an L-shaped block was added to the north.
The building is constructed from coursed rubble masonry, featuring large stones as quoins, while the south gable of the 19th century wing is rendered. The openings in the 19th century wing and some windows in the 17th century section have stone lintels, and the windows are fitted with slate sills. The 20th century addition includes large mullioned windows, which the owner believes are made of cast cement rather than stone. The roof is slate with a tiled ridge and slate copings, and there are gable stacks at the west end of the 17th century part and the south gable of the 19th century wing.
The building consists of two main sections with distinct characters. The northern part is more formal, featuring advanced wings flanking a central block that has a central entrance and large windows with nine small paned lights. The main doorway has a Tudor arched head made of raking stones. The southernmost advanced wing is the altered 17th century farmhouse, which is adjacent to the 19th century wing. This section has a more vernacular character, with the entrance offset to the right end of the 19th century wing, featuring a re-set stone lintel inscribed with the date and initials: MP 1667. The windows in this part are horned sashes with 12 and 16 panes.
The interior was modernized during the mid-20th century alterations, but it retains the original central front doorway of the late 17th century farmhouse, with raking stones set in the local style above it.
