Description

This is a vernacular field cowhouse, likely built in the late 17th century, situated with its gable facing a gentle hill slope, which is a common practice. The structure is made of boulder rubble and rests on prominent boulder and rock foundations. It has an old slate roof with crudely-kneelered, un-coped rubble gable parapets. There is an entrance at the lower gable featuring a crude projecting lintel supported by stone corbels, with a deeply-recessed modern door. Additional entrances are located at the upper ends of each long side, each fitted with modern boarded doors.

Inside, the cowhouse consists of three bays and retains its original primitive pegged trusses, which are of the tie-beam and collar type.
