Description

These nine cottages, numbered 1 to 9 on Gwynant Street, were likely constructed in the 18th century, with later building phases evident in a masonry break between numbers 2 and 3, and again between numbers 8 and 9. The cottages are built of roughly-squared stone blocks, covered by a continuous slate roof with a tiled ridge and shared, plain chimneys. The cottages are arranged as reflected pairs, aside from number 9, which is a two-window unit with a central entrance. The arrangement incorporates alternating paired inner doors and windows. All the doors are 20th century replacements, mostly modern. The ground floor windows of number 6 (Hebog) feature a 12-pane sash; numbers 2, 4, 7, and 9 have later 19th century plain sashes. All ground floor windows except those of numbers 1 and 2 feature returned slate labels and slate lintels. Upper floor windows in numbers 2, 7, and 9 retain their original 19th century 9-pane sashes under the eaves, while number 6 has a 12-pane sash; the remainder are modern replacements.
