Description
The group of three railed tombs is located in the churchyard of St Mary's Church. The largest and western-most tomb measures approximately 3.5 meters square and features two polished slate tomb-slabs belonging to the family of Charles Easton Spooner, who was an engineer and secretary of the Ffestiniog Railway. These tomb-slabs are set on a slate-flagged pavement, elevated on six slate balls, with bolection-moulded sides and simple acanthus decoration at the centers and corners. The southern-most tomb has a memorial inscription for James Alfred Easton, who died in 1857, with later additions; the right tomb is inscribed in memory of John Eryri Easton, who died in 1877. Simple cast iron railings with foliated heads surround this enclosure, which is built on a limestone plinth.
The southern-most enclosure contains a small slate tomb-slab with moulded sides and railings similar to the larger tombs, dedicated to the memory of Elizabeth Preece, described as the 'Faithful servant of Charles Easton Spooner Esq.', who died in 1864.
The eastern-most enclosure features a polished slate tomb-slab with moulded sides and incised lettering, commemorating Alice Jackson, who also died in 1864. This tomb is surrounded by cast iron railings topped with stylised spear-headed finials.
